NSAIDs of Non Steroidal Anti Inflammatory medications have been around for years. These medications may reduce pain and inflammation but interrupt healing, and can cause kidney and even cardiac problems with prolonged usage. Advil has been popular for years as convenient pain relief in a pill. Baby aspirin had been recommended for years to reduce the risk of stroke but causing an entire generation of people with chronic stomach problems years later. Studies show that people who have bad knees, hips, and even ankles may have used NSAIDs to relieve the pain in the past. Preventable joint damage in the future is often the result. Many of these patients visit medical specialists for answers years later. Often, they are helped more by chiropractors who help them improve how they feel and function naturally without the need for tests, drugs or invasive risky procedures such as joint replacement. Recently, I found this blog post from the American Council on Science and Health that explains the major NSAIDs and their side effects. To improve how we feel and age, we need to act differently. Unfortunately, this is often difficult with our culture of instant satisfaction and Urgent care providers giving pain relief cocktails while they rarely refer you to the proper person. The current information suggests NSAIDs have little or no evidence that they help improve problems long term and their chronic usage can create long-term harm. Chiropractic care may be your best option for proper diagnosis and appropriate care. Who you begin care with can determine your experience in the healthcare system. While there are more natural and healthier options to reduce pain and inflammation such as Tumeric, Ginger, or products like Deflame that reduce systemic inflammation while improving overall health, your mechanical health is also important for less pain and better function as we age. NSAIDs: Pick Your Poison There is a better way to feel and function better naturally. Think Chiropractic first. Why chiropractic care for pain? Chiropractors are the only holistic profession providing care for the musculoskeletal system. By looking at the entire person rather than just the painful area, patients receive a better diagnosis, and better care and endure fewer costs and tests. Most importantly, they often improve on the same day naturally. What do expect on your first visit? A thorough history An examination that includes blood pressure, orthopedic and neurological tests, x-rays if required, and functional tests and evaluation from the feet up to determine why you are in pain. All exam findings are explained while we evaluate to you understand your problem (s). Treatment may include manipulation of the extremities, spine, and myofascial release which improve how you move. Foot orthotics may be given to level the pelvis, reduce pain, and improve how you function. How long are visits Initial evaluations may require under an hour including the first treatment. Followup visits require a half hour or more or less depending on the complexity of the case. We are a results-orientated office and patients are treated as well as instructed in therapeutic exercises to improve their problems. Patients who require additional testing such as an MRI can have those evaluations ordered by our office for most insurances other than Medicare. Patient treatment plans are developed to help you function and feel better. Once patients achieve maximum improvement, they are discharged to well care which is different for everyone.
