So many people now are type 2 diabetics and require insulin to be taken regularly. Once you become insulin dependent, the daily ritual of stabbing your finger and using a manual glucose monitor is being replaced with one you can wear all day, as it constantly tells you your glucose level.

The problem is, that although more people are now wearing a device or a phone app, the quest for the two to communicate and automatically deliver your insulin dose has been going on for years.

While there have been concerns that the devices such as a Medtronic pump can be hacked as reported in the JAMA, diabetics have been hacking their own devices for years.

Today, the Omnipod 5 has been approved for type 2 diabetes, and the device, that automatically delivers the needed insulin dose is now FDA approved. The device can be worn for three days at a time in conjunction with a continuous glucose monitor as reported by WebMD.

The monitor uses your phone as the data device so it is convenient to use
