Foam rolling the upper body – great techniques you can use with a small foam roller for back pain relief.

Our original foam roller video for runners has been used by hundreds of people who wanted to learn creative ways to use a foam roller safely (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-BllSV77O08)

Our new foam roller for the upper back video shows you how to use a foam roller against the wall with just your body weight to loosen the mid back, upper back muscles as well as the chest muscles.

Foam rolling has become quite popular since it allows you to perform myofascial release on yourself if you feel tight, or prior to physical activity. When the myofascial is tight (connective tissue surrounding the muscles), the muscles coordinate poorly and cause other muscle groups in the area to function less effectively, which is why we tighten (learn more about this by reading Cheating Mother Nature, what you need to know to beat chronic pain).

You can do generalized foam rolling to loosen yourself up, improve muscular movement and coordination as well as flexibility prior to doing physical exertion. While foam rolling does not solve all of the problems you may experience, it is definitely a great way to help yourself. If a problem does not resolve with simple foam rolling, see a professional who specializes in manipulation and fascial release for the best clinical results.
