Can we trust pharmaceutical companies

According to JAMA, the public’s trust in pharmaceutical companies is low.

Americans have good reasons not to trust them even though they have helped many Americans live longer. They have also created solutions that often make us depend on their products for longevity, even if that level of health is poor.

They have often lied about the effectiveness of products or their side effects. For example, the original Shingles vaccine, which was only 50% effective, was heavily marketed to seniors until it was discovered that the product was ineffective in that age group.

Gardasil was supposed to prevent cervical cancer in women, and it was supposed to decrease risks associated with the HPV virus. The truth is that the cancer rates are growing, with a vaccine that can cause harm even though so many women have been vaccinated.

The government and big pharma continue to promote COVID-19 vaccine boosters without convincing proof of need. Do the benefits outweigh the risks? Pfizer continued during the pandemic to go back to Israel and trial different groups attempting to convince us that we all needed the mRNA vaccine when the group that most benefitted this was seniors. This was an attempt to increase sales. Most of these trials failed to show a benefit.

In today’s environment, there is another choice with few side effects offered as a booster made by Novavax, the last vaccine approved for Covid-19. Costco recently offered the vaccine for those who want it. Most of us who now have both vaccine and natural immunity can naturally resist infection from the virus. More Americans are questioning the need for boosters now.

In a recent trial for an Alzheimer’s drug, genetic tests showed that certain patients were predisposed to brain injuries if they took the drugs. That information remained secret. Many were harmed when the company did not divulge this information. You can read the article recently published in the NY Times below

We all make choices throughout our lives. How we eat, sleep, study, exercise, our relationships, our relationship to our health.

We also have choices in what we put into our bodies. The food, greens, organic or non-organic, meats, processed foods, etc. People also make choices about their health and what they use to stay healthy.

Are the medications recommended to me healthy, and necessary, or are there long-term problems caused by the vaccines? Do I get vaccinated for everything that comes out or do I make choices because no vaccine or any medical intervention has risks? The benefits outweighing the risks is always a consideration. Recently, a flu vaccine called Flu Mist which is an inhalant was approved to eliminate the most common flu vaccine risk; the injection site.

As I have often said to my wife, my patients, and others, my body, my temple. We do have choices. It is up to us to make the best choices for us.

While Big pharma has helped improve our health over the years, often, doctors overprescribe since our healthcare is so segmented. Every doctor has another prescription which leads to sales on a prescription basis to relief rather than to solve a problem. Often, there are better options but are your providers offering those options to you, or just another prescription to add to the others? Do you trust that the side effects will not lead you to another health problem down the road? Then, there are also the obscene costs down the road for those medications, compared to other countries.
