Is protein powder necessary for our health?

Protein powder supplements are not necessary for most of us however, people who are over 50 require twice protein than younger people according to current knowledge.

There are certain formulations designed for those who work out a lot, to help build muscle and avoid muscular breakdown from the workouts.

According to a recent NY Times article,

Federal guidelines recommend that adults 19 and older consume 0.36 grams of protein per pound of body weight per day. That comes out to 54 grams for a 150-pound adult or 72 grams for a person weighing 200 pounds. Experts suggest people over 50, pregnant people, those who breastfeed, and those who are strength or endurance training should double these recommendations.
