Working with many runners for the past 26 years both in my office and during USATFNJ track events, I have seen many things and helped runners solve many problems. Many of my current marathoners are working toward sub 4 hour marathon paces which is awesome. Some higher achieving adults do a sub 3 hour marathon but this is an elite group. Then, there is this 12 year old girl I read about recently named Evan Kim, who was recently written about in the LA times. A 3-hour marathon is a pace of about 6.5 minutes a mile. She might want to be an elementary school teacher. Or perhaps an Olympic long-distance runner. She’s working on the running thing. The 5-foot-tall sixth-grader placed second among all girls and women at the Ventura Marathon in February when she ran the 26.2-mile course in 2 hours 58 minutes, averaging less than 7 minutes per mile. Her goal this year is to run the fastest recorded marathon for a 12-year-old of either gender — she’s only four minutes away.
